Content Bullet Points:

·        Use what you have on hand

·        Think out of the box—its how you wear it as much as what you wear

·        Don’t be afraid to experiment, you can always change something to make it better

·        Be sure to add the finishing touches that make a difference—kids love “bling” and a dash of suave’ and debonair

·        Use clothing that is slightly too big when creating knights, pirates, fairies, and princesses

Child Princess
Use mom’s pretty blouse as a dress by using safety pins to create permanent pleats center
front, center back, and additional pleats as needed to make the waist line smaller
Tie a sash or ribbon around the waist or use a belt for added detail
Pin a scarf, shawl, or pashima to the shoulders for a cape
Make a hat out of tag board (poster paper) by cutting out a cone shape 18” high
Place a piece of string 18” long after a pencil has been tied to one end
Hold the empty end of the string at the top corner of the tag board
Stretch the string out tight as you make a mark for one inch every 4 inches as you
rotate from the far left side of the tag board to the far right side
Use the line you just made like a dotted line and cut a continuous smooth cut to
create a cone shape
Take the right side and over-lap it over the left side to make a cone with a small
hole in the top and the bottom small enough to fit around your child’s head
Secure the head size by stapling the bottom and the top overlaps
Pin a sheer scarf to the point of the hat (cone) with a sparkly brooch (pin)
Place the hat on the child’s head and make a mark just in front of the ears on both sides
Use a hole-punch to make a hole on each mark
String a ribbon (any kind will do as will a shoe lace) through the hole from inside of the
hat across the front and down through the other hole to create ties to tie under the
chin
Secure the sides of the scarf at the bottom of the hat next to the tie holes using use
double-sided fashion tape
For extra security, use bobbypins along the bottom edge of the hat
Don’t forget to add the bling by using a rhinestone necklace

Queen
Use the same costume as the princess but add a crown (make one out of construction
paper or tag board and glitter

Fairy
Add a rhinestone necklace as a headpiece instead of a crown and secure it with bobby
pins with the center of the necklace hanging down on the forehead
Make fairy wings out of two interlocked wire hangers (weave the hook part of the
hangers together and secure with packaging tape
Drape a large sheer scarf, shawl, or sarong over the hangers to create the wings
Use the diagonal ends to tie a knot in the middle to create the center point
            of the wings
Secure the wings to the dress and sash with two large safety pins

Cat

Use a woman’s knee-hi tube sock or a leg on a pair of children’s or lady’s tights
Stuff the leg with plastic shopping bags
Using a safety pin, pin the top of the sock (with the tail being held straight up so
that when the tail hangs down the pin is hidden)
If using tights, tuck the panty part of the tights into the right side of your
pants or skirt and bring the empty leg around your waist and tie or
pin it to the top of the stuffed leg creating a belt with the tights leg.
Tie a ribbon or scarf around the top of the tail over where you pinned it to
the garment or use the scarf to tie the tail to a belt.
You may want to cover the “tights” around the waist with a belt.
Cut small ear shapes out of pink construction paper or felt
Secure the pink ear on black cardstock using double stick tape or glue and
cut around the pink ear; make sure there is ¼” of black showing a
round the pink as you cut. Repeat process for second ear.
Cut the bottom center of the ear up 3/8”
Overlap the bottom of the ear where the cut is to make it smaller and curve
the ear and make it stand upright – staple the lapped over area to secure
Safety pin to a headband or hat
Cut a pink oval out of construction paper and stick to the belly with double sided tape
Tie a scarf or ribbon around your neck or put on a cat collar

Use the same directions as the cat except for the ears
Take a pair of ankle socks and pin them to the sides of a headband so as to hide the safety-pin with ear as it flops over

pleat to make it smaller

inches of string between the legs for spacing. Attach the string with small safety
pins pinned through a knot in the string
